Description:Polychrome wood model of a butcher's shop, the meat displayed hanging outside the shop with the figures of the butcher and his boy. Two trees made of grasses stand either side of the house. In a glazed shadow box. Height 370mm, Length 615mm, Depth 120mm Late Victorian or Edwardian, probably early 1900s. There were many 'butcher's shop models', and were normally made by the butcher. Many were placed in the butcher's shop window at night as a display, after the meat had been sold or cleared away. It is also thought that these models were used to teach girls housewifery skills.
