Description:

German States - Hannover, silver groschen, 1858

Diameter 18mm

The obverse features the denomination above the date. The inscription around the outside reads '30 EINEN THALER/ SCHEIDEMUNZE' indicating that the groschen is a fractional coinage and that 30 groschen are equal to one thaler. The reverse features a horse rearing, a symbol which also appears in the coat of arms of the Royal House of Hannover. The inscription around the top is partially obscured by wear but reads 'Kingdom of Hannover' and below is the mintmark for Hannover, 'B'. There is a hole pierced in the top of the coin which is not part of the original design.
