German States - Prussian silver thaler, 1866
Diameter 33mm
The obverse features the bust of Wilhelm I facing right and the inscription 'WILHELM KOENIG VON PREUSSEN', meaning 'Wilhelm King of Prussia'. Below the bust is the mintmark for Berlin, 'A'. There is a sticker, with the number '2' written in ink, over the bottom right of the bust. The reverse features an eagle wearing a crown and a medal collar with a medal attached. The eagle is holding a sceptre in its right talon and an orb in its left, and is from the Prussian Coat of Arms. The date is below and the inscription around the outside reads 'EIN VEREINSTHALER /XXX EIN PFUND FEIN'. 'Verein' means 'union' and the second half of the inscription refers to the amount of silver in the coin, in this case 1/30th of a pound.
