English silver sixpence, 1941
Diameter 19mm
The obverse features the bust of George VI facing left. The inscription reads 'GEORGIUS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX', Latin, abbreviated meaning 'George V By the Grace of God King of all the Britains'. The reverse features the monogram 'GRI' for 'Georgius Rex Imperator' (George Emperor and King) below a crown and dividing the date. The inscription around the top reads 'FID.DEF.IND.IMP', Latin, abbreviated meaning 'Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India'. The value is written below and above it are the initials 'K.G' for Kruger Gray, the designer. At either side two disks have been punched out, this is not part of the original design.
