Description:

English silver threepence, 1678

Diameter 16mm

The obverse features the draped laureate bust of Charles II facing right. The inscription reads 'CAROLUS II./ DEI. GRATIA', Latin, 'Charles II By the Grace of God'. The reverse features three C's interlocked and topped by a crown. The inscription reads 'MAG.BRI.FRA.ET.HIB.REX.1678', Latin, abbreviated meaning 'King of Great Britain, France and Ireland'. There is a hole pierced in the coin which is not part of the original design.
