French copper-nickel five centimes, 1923
Diameter 16mm
Circular coin with a central circular hole. The obverse features the letters 'R/ F' for Republique Francaise' flanking the central hole. The Phrygian, or liberty, cap is above and a wreath of oak branches is around the outside. The name of the designer, E M Lindauer, is below to the right of the base of the wreath. The reverse features the denomination, abbreviated to '5Cmes' flanking the central hole. Above is the motto 'LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE', 'Liberty Equality Brotherhood'. The date below is divided by the base of an olive branch which reaches up to either side of the central hole and underneath the denomination. To the left and right are the Privy Mark of the torch for the Engraver General of Paris and the thunderbolt mintmark of Poissy.
