English bronze penny, 'bun head' coinage, 1877
Diameter 30mm
The obverse features the 'bun head' bust of Victoria facing left. The inscription reads 'VICTORIA D:G: BRITT:REG:F:D', Latin, abbreviated meaning 'Victoria By the Grace of God Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith'. The reverse features Britannia seated facing right. She has a shield at her side and a trident in her left hand. There is a lighthouse and a ship in the background. The date is below and the denomination above.
