Irish copper halfpenny, 1723
Diameter 25mm
The obverse features the laureate bust of George I facing right and the inscription 'GEORGIUS. DEI. GRATIA. REX', Latin for 'George By the Grace of God King'. The reverse features Britannia seated and facing left. She holds an olive branch aloft in her right hand and rests her left arm on a harp, the national symbol of Ireland. The inscription here reads 'HIBERNIA' (Ireland) followed by the date.
