"A father being kicked out by his son, begged him to stop at the door, for he said he had kicked his father as far as that". VII.6.2

"One ought to be well trained from youth up, as Plato says, to feel pleasure & pain at the right objects". [?]th.II.3.2 [the passage alluded to in the Laws, p653.

[Greek text]

"How Iis the supreme Good of the world to be represented? - Whether as existing apart from the world, like the General in an army, or as [inherent] in the world, like the discipline of an army? In other words, are we to hold that the Deity is immanent or transcendant? Aristotle gives no direct answer to this question; but seems to say that God must be conceived both ways, just as the army implies both discipline & general. & the discipline for the sake of (?because of, or by consequence of) the general." Metaphysics XI.X.I (Grant, Essay V.)

[Page 3]

"There are many things diviner than man." [?]. Nic.VI.VII.4

"The question, 'Why should I do anything if all is fated', was called by philosophers 'the lazy [?]ment' [greek words].

"The form of the practical [?] is: either (1) major. Such as action is universally good; minor. This will be an action of the kind. Conclusion. Performance of action. or (2) Such an end is desirable. This step will [conduce] to this end. Conclusion Taking the step.
