Date:4th of February 1598
Description:William Shakespeare is listed in this survey, under Church and Chapel Street Ward. This was the ward in which stood New Place, the house he had purchased the year before. He was said to have had '10 quarters' in his barn. A 'quarter' in this context was a dry measure of capacity, equalling eight bushels. Of the seventy-five burgesses listed, only thirteen held more than Shakespeare. Shakespeare Birthplace Trust reference: BRU 15/1/106
