Date:1814
Description:This plaster-cast copy was made from the bust which forms part of the monument in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford-upon-Avon, where Shakespeare is buried. The monument was presumably commissioned by a surviving member, or members, of Shakespeare's family and so can be regarded as a reasonably accurate representation of what he looked like. It is a representation from which many other depictions have been derived. Copied in 1814, from the original by Gheerart Janssen c. 1623 Identity number SBT 1868-3/280 On display Shakespeare's Birthplace Visitor Centre, Henley Street, Stratford-upon-Avon
