Date:1860 - 1880 (c.)
Description:This framed print belonged to George Eliot and depicts the head of Christ. It may be the work of German artist Friedrich Overbeck (1789-1869). George Eliot met him while in Rome, in 1860, and it is possible that the character of "Naumann" in Middlemarch (1871) was based on him. George Eliot (born Mary Ann Evans) was a local authoress based in the Coventry and Nuneaton district, from 1819-1880.
