Description:

A pair of black Peltor ear defenders from the Ford factory, Leamington Spa. They were worn to protect the wearer's hearing whilst at work. From the 1970s health and safety regulations in the workplace became more stringent. Employers provided more protective clothing and equipment to their workers and greater emphasis was placed on training. Unions acted to ensure that employers adhered to these regulations.
