Description:
A postcard from New Zealand, c. 1868 - 1898, produced by Burton Brothers.
The postcard shows portraits of Maori people and the New Zealand landscape arranged symmetrically. The Burton brothers were Alfred Henry Burton (1834 - 1914) and Walter John Burton (1836 - 1880). They were born in Leicestershire and joined in partnership in 1868 in Dunedin, New Zealand. After Walter Burton's death in 1880, Alfred Burton employed Thomas Mintario Bayley Muir (c.1852-1945) and later George Moodie. Alfred Burton retired from the business in 1898, leaving it to Muir and Moodie.
