Description:

Belgian 2 centimes, 1875

Diameter 22mm

The obverse features the monogram of Leopold II with a crown above. The inscription reads 'LEOPOLD II ROI DES BELGES', meaning 'Leopold II King of the Belgians', stopped by a five-pointed star. The date below is partly obscured by a pierced hole which is not part of the original design. The reverse features a seated lion with its paw on the Belgian Constitution. Around the top is the Belgian national motto 'L'UNION FAIT LA FORCE', meaning 'Strength through Unity'. Below is the denomination and the name 'BRAEMT F', possibly that of the designer or engraver.
