Description:
German States - Prussian copper 2 pfenninge, 1868
Diameter 20mm
The obverse features the denomination above the date. The inscription 'SCHEIDE MUNZE' is arched around the top. The term tells us that the two pfenninge coin is part of a fractional coinage. At the base is the mintmark for Cleve, 'C'. The reverse features a crown above a shield bearing the eagle from the Prussian Coat of Arms, the eagle holds a sceptre in its right talon and an orb in its left. The inscription around the outside reads '180 EINEN THALER' referring again to the pfenninge as a fractional coin. In this case 180 two pfenninge pieces are equal to one thaler.
