German copper pfenning, 1874

Diameter 16mm

The obverse features a large central number '1' with the inscription 'PFENNIG' below. 'DEUTSCHES REICH 1874' is inscribed around the outside with two dots dividing it from the denomination. The reverse features the coat of arms for the German Empire (1871-1918). This consists of a large eagle with a crown above bearing a shield with a smaller eagle on its chest. The smaller eagle also bears a shield on its chest. The two 'C's at the base are the mintmark for Frankfurt.
