Description:

Prussian Silber Groschen, 1825

Diameter 17mm

The obverse features the bust of Friedrich Wilhelm III facing right. The inscription reads 'FRIEDR.WILH.III KOENIG V PREUSSEN', 'Friedrich Wilhelm III King of Prussia'. The reverse features the inscription '1 SILBER GROSCHEN 1825' in the centre and underneath is the Berlin mint mark 'A'. Around the outside is inscribed '50 EINEN THALER/SCHEIDE MUNZE'. The term 'scheide munze' refers to the fact that the Groschen was fractional money, of less value than the thaler. In this case the inscription '50 einen thaler' means that fifty 1 silber groschen were equal to one thaler.
