Description:

English copper token, 1797

Diameter 28mm

The obverse features the flag of the British East India Company with the inscription 'MAY IT BE DISPLAYED AT ALL POINTS OF YE COMPASS'. The reverse features a flotilla of five rigged ships with the inscription, 'Cape St Vincent/ Feby 14/ 1797'. This token commemorates the victory of Admirals Jervis and Nelson over the Spanish fleet off the coast of Portugal.
