Description:This is a Vichy Douche concrete massage slab. It was used in physiotherapy treatments at the Royal Pump Rooms, Leamington Spa. Firstly the patient lay on the slab. They were then sprayed with warm water at high pressure to stimulate the skin. This was combined with massage and excercises which loosened the muscles and improved circualtion. The treatment was followed by wrapping the patient in warm towels, and sending them to lie down in the cool room of the Hammam. The treatment required 300 gallons of water, it drained through holes at the corners and centre of the slab.
