Description:b>Autolycus sings of daffodils in The Winter’s Tale

Autolycus, the former courtier turned pedlar, first arrives on the scene singing of the joys of spring: ‘When daffodils begin to peer... why then comes in the sweet of the year’, (4,2, line 1) Shakespeare was probably familiar with the illustrations of common flowers, such as daffodils, which inspired many lines in his plays.
