Description:A photographic portrait of James Francis Harry, 5th Earl of Rosslyn (b.1869) taken at a costume ball, Bal Pouudre, at Warwick Castle in 1895.
The Earl was a half brother to Frances Evelyn Brooke (or Daisy), the Countess of Warwick, who became famous for staging glamorous events such as this.
Bal Poudre means literally 'Powdered Ball' - this was a lavish recreation of a ball at the French Court in the 18th century, when the fashion for powdered wigs was high fashion.
