Date:1597 - 1598 (c.)

Description:Entry in the chamberlains' accounts submitted to the Stratford Corporation for the year 1597/8 recording the purchase of a load of stone for 10 pence from 'Mr Shaxsper'.

As William Shakespeare's father, John, did not die until 1601, this entry could refer either to him or his son. However, as William had recently purchased New Place, this sale of stone may have arisen out of alterations and rebuilding work he carried out.
