Description:
Photograph by Walden Hammond of a bath and couch within the Plombiere and two way colonic irrigation suite at the Royal Pump Rooms, Leamington Spa.
The Plombiere Suite was installed in 1923, and the colonic irrigation suite was added in 1943. During Plombiere treatment the patient lay on the couch, which had a hole in it. The colon was flushed out into a bucket below the hole, and a nurse inspected the contents. By 1951 Plombiere was no longer endorsed by the British Medical Association.
