Date:1865 - 1870 (c.)
Description:
A photographic portrait of Richard Boffin (1789-1869).
Boffin worked as an agricultural labourer in Harbury, near Leamington. His clothes are typical for a farm worker, although the smock he is wearing was kept for special occasions. Cameras were still very new at the time and mystified at having his photograph taken Boffin exclaimed: 'How quickly they draw me Sir'. The photograph was processed by J. W. Haynes of 2 York Terrace, Leamington Spa between 1865 and 1870.
