Description:The ‘'cottage-roof'’ style binding for a Shakespeare ‘First Folio’. Lord Ashburnham’s binding for his copy of the Shakespeare 'First Folio' is simple, but elegant, created in the mid-nineteenth-century, with gold tooling outlines that echo the ‘cottage-roof’ style popular in the eighteenth century. Full title: William Shakespeare, Mr William Shakespeares comedies, histories & tragedies published according to the True Originall Copies, London, printed by Isaac Jaggard, and Ed[ward] Blount, 1623. The 'Ashburnham' copy owned by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
