Description:In all probability the earlier portrait depicted Sir Thomas Overbury (1581-1613) and was subsequently falsified to look like a portrait of Shakespeare. Printed by R. Dunkarton, from an earlier portrait attributed to Cornelius Janssen. Published by S. Woodburn in 1811 Owners of original Jansen portrait: Prince Rupert; Archibald, Duke of Hamilton and Brandon.
