Description:Muzzle-loading, percussion holster pistol from Charing Cross, made by John Prosser. It has been converted from the original flintlock ignition.
It has a round nine inch damascus twist barrel of about .65 calibre retained by two keys with a full length top flat marked London.
The barrel has a patent or hook breech. The iron swivel ramrod assembly is missing and has been replaced by a wooden ramrod with a brass tip which is a cutdown shotgun ramrod. The butt is unusually narrow and has coarse chequering.
The pistol was made about 1810 and converted to percussion in about 1830, by a good gunsmith. The design of the butt suggests it was used to improve grip while horse riding.
