Description:Shakespeare's source for Macbeth's meeting with the weird sisters. This woodcut, from Holinshed's first edition of 'The Chronicles of Scotland' shows the meeting of Macbeth and Banquo with the three weird sisters who prophesy Macbeth’s future as Thane of Cawdor and then King of Scotland, which is the immediate source for the plot in Macbeth , 1,3, lines 46-75. Full title: Raphael Holinshed, The firste [laste] volume of chronicles of England, Scotlande and Irelande.
