Date:1875 - 1920 (c.)
Description:This is a polychrome painted wooden model of a butcher's shop in a glazed box. The figures of the butcher and his boy stand outside the shop surrounded by joints of meat. Two trees made of grasses are on either side. These models were often made by butchers themselves, and normally placed in the window at night as a display after the meat had been sold or cleared away. It has been suggested that these models may also have been used to teach girls housewifery skills. This probably dates from the early 1900s. Height 370mm, Length 615mm, Depth 120mm
