Description:
Colour photograph inside the Royal Pump Rooms, Leamington Spa.
View of the hydrotherapy department c.1980. An attendant is handing a towel to another woman. In the background is the therapeutic pool.
The therapeutic pool replaced the original swimming pool built in 1863. In 1890 it became the Ladies' pool when the De Normanville pool was built and used by men. In 1950 the Ladies' pool was partially filled in and a ramp was installed so it could be used for physiotherapy treatments. It was converted into the Art Gallery during the refurbishments of 1997-1999.
