Strawberry Cottage
By Charles Joseph Hullmandel (1789 - 1850) based on a drawing by W. Rider, published 1826
150mm x 200mm
View of Strawberry Cottage with a woman and child outside. Strawberry Cottage stood on land which is now part of the Jephson Gardens. When the Gardens were first laid out in 1834 the cottage was not included and remained private. The land was purchased in the 1860s by a committee in charge of erecting a memorial in honour of Dr John Hitchman. The Hitchman Memorial Fountain was erected on the site where Strawberry Cottage once stood.
