Description:This whirligig, a guardsman in uniform, is made of polychrome pine and metal. The soldier wears a traditional uniform of black trousers and a red jacket with a high collar, white belt and buttons down the front and a large bearskin hat. Whirligigs are hand-carved and painted articulated weathervanes, generally home-made, and very vulnerable to the elements. This one is British and comes from the early 20th century.
