Date:1900 - 1925 (c.)

Description:This is an automaton (moving) model of a potter's workshop in an angled case with a glass front. Two men are in the workshop and both move when operated by a key from the back.

When the key is turned, the flywheel next to the man on the right turns, and this drives the potter's wheel on the left. The flywheel operater's left arm rises intermittently to mop his brow with a rag. On the left the potter is seated at his wheel throwing a pot, and as the wheels turn, his arms move up and down to shape the revolving pot.

At the back and sides of the workshop are shelves of white painted crockery made from zinc. At the side of the potter is a large lump of clay, ready for throwing the next pot.

This is Northern European and dates from the early 19th century. Height 320mm, Length 320mm, Width 247mm
