Date:1845 - 1855 (c.)
Description:This watercolour and collage on paper shows two boxers. The prohibition of cock-fighting in the late 1840s led to a growth of interest amongst the working classes in boxing. The paper figures, with their facial features, muscular arms and embroidered bodies are a brave attempt at realism. The collage is by the English Provincial School, and is dated around 1850. Unframed size: 343 x 422mm
