Description:Ink cartoon by Ken Aitken of the Royal Pump Rooms covered in lights and signs advertising events, Blackpool style. The caption reads 'We Decided That a Facelift Was the Only Answer', c.1980.
Ken's cartoons on topical issues were published every week by the Leamington Spa Courier. This particular cartoon was drawn in the 1980's. It shows the Royal Pump Rooms and reflects the uncertainty of the age and surrounding the future plans for the Royal Pump Rooms.
Ken's main love was aviation. He was in the AIr Training Corps as a teenager and joined the Royal Air Force in 1946. From the 1980's he was part of the Guild of Aviation Artists and was one of only a few to be honoured with full membership. His pictures of vintage aircraft and pilots were regularly exhibited in London.
