Description:A double-barrelled, muzzle-loading, boxlock, flintlock, tap-action, pocket pistol, made in Birmingham, c.1813-1830
Boxlock means that the flintlock and it's associated lockwork is contained inside the metal frame of the pistol rathre than mounted on a seperate lockplate.
Tap-action is a means of firing each barrel independantly using only one flintlock and flashpan.
The pistol is loaded at the breech by unscrewing the barrels using a square key which fits the grooves in the muzzles. These grooves are not rifling as commonly and erroneously thought. The pistol is a good quality pocket pistol as exemplified by such features as the frizzen locking bolt operated by the sliding safety catch.
The name Grafton and Co may have been the retailer. The proof marks are Birmingham, post 1813 and it would have been made before 1830.
