Date:1813
Description:Muzzle-loading, percussion shotgun converted from the original flintlock ignition.
It has a 31 1/2 inch, octagonal-to-round barrel, key retained, with a patent hook breech having an inlaid silver line. The barrel has post 1813 Birmingham proof marks under the breech and is stamped 'Stubs Twisted'. This refers to the method and material of barrel construction known as stub twist. The barrel would have originally been browned, revealing the spiral pattern of lines typical of this method of construction. It has an iron scroll trigger guard and a walnut stock, chequered at the wrist with a small shield shaped silver escutcheon and iron buttplate. The maker's name, Joseph Richards, is inlaid in gold on the top barrel flat. It was converted to percussion badly.
