Description:
A colour postcard by Valentines from the Men of the Moment series. It is printed with a photographic portrait of Admiral John R. Jellicoe set against the Union Jack flag.
Admiral John R. Jellicoe (1859 - 1935) was a well known Admiral of the Royal Navy. He joined in 1872 and served in the Egyptian war of 1882. In 1911 Churchill appointed Jellicoe second-in-command of the Grand Fleet under Admiral John Fisher. Jellicoe was often criticised for his cautious strategies. Despite some public criticism he was appointed First Sea Lord - commanding the entire Royal Navy - in 1916.
