Date:1914
Description:
A colour postcard with a portrait of General Rennenkampf in military uniform. General Paul von Rennenkampf (1854 - 1918) joined the Russian army at a young age and had achieved the rank of Major-General by 1900. He was given command of the Russian First Army in 1914 at the outbreak of the First World War. However, a number of failures on the Prussian front led to his resignation in 1915. He was executed by the Bolsheviks in 1918 after refusing to accept a command in the Red Army during the Russian Civil War.
This is one of a set of military postcards probably produced at the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.
