Description:
A colour postcard with a portrait of Vice-Admiral Sir David Beatty in military uniform.
Sir David Beatty (1871 - 1936) took part in most of the major naval engagements of the First World War, including Heligoland Bight (1914), Dogger Bank (1915) and Jutland (1916). He was promoted to the rank of Admiral and Chief of the Grand Fleet in 1916. In 1919 Beatty was promoted to Admiral of the Fleet and served as First Sea Lord until 1927 when he retired.
This is one of a set of military postcards probably produced at the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.
