Photograph of a patient receiving shortwave therapy to the shoulders. Shortwave and microwave diathermy was first used at the Royal Pump Rooms in the early 1920s. Conditions which could be treated were poor circulation, muscle and joint pain, arthritis, haematoma, lumbago, myalgia, eczma, frostbite, boils, carbuncles, bronchitis, pulmonary abscess, dysmenorrhoea and amenorrhoea. Hanging from the back wall are lumbar traction harnesses, ropes and pulleys.
