View of the Vortex bath area with the Vortex bath visible in the bottom right hand corner.
Vortex baths were used at the Royal Pump Rooms as early as the 1940s. They were used to treat polio patients and to stimulate circulation as well as to relieve general aches and pains. The patient could sit on the side and immerse their feet and legs or get into the bath to treat the entire body.
