English bronze penny, 1967

Diameter 30.5mm


The obverse features the laureate bust of Elizabeth II facing right. The inscription reads 'ELIZABETH. II. DEI. GRATIA. REGINA. F:D', Latin, abbreviated meaning 'Elizabeth II By the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith'. The obverse features Britannia seated and facing right. Her right arm is resting on a shield by her side that bears the Union Flag. In her left hand she holds Poseidon's trident. In the background is the sea with a lighthouse to the left. The denomination flanks the central image and the date is below.
