South African silver shilling, 1896

Diameter 22mm

The obverse features the bust of Paul Kruger facing left. The reverse features the denomination above the date within a wreath of oak branches. Above is the inscription 'Z. AFRIK. REP', abbreviated from 'Zuid-Afrikaansche Republick', which translates as the South African Republic, an independent Boer-ruled country in South Africa in the second half of the nineteenth century.
