Description:

Russian copper two kopeks, 1891

Diameter 24mm

The obverse features the Minor State Emblem of the Russian Empire, a double headed eagle with a crown above, holding an orb in its left talon and a sceptre in its right. On its chest is an escutcheon of St George surrounded by the collar of the Order of St Andrew, and on its wings are eight smaller shields representing Astrakhan, Siberia, Georgia, Finland, Kiev-Vladimir-Novgorod, Taurica, Poland and Kazan. The inscription around the outside is in Russian script. The reverse features the denomination flanked by two five-pointed stars at either side of the '2'. This is separated from the St Petersburg mintmark by a calligraphic design, all within a central beaded ring. Around the outside is a wreath of olive and oak tied at the base with a bow. The date above is given both in western and Russian numbers.
