Description:
Italian States - Lombardy-Venetia copper 5 centesimi, 1822
Diameter 23mm
Before the unification of Italy the country was made up of independent states. The state of Lombardy-Venetia was in the far north and in 1822 it was under Hapsburg rule. This may explain the inscription 'REGNO LOMBARDO VENETO', meaning 'Kingdon of Lombardy-Venetia', as the Hapsburgs were monarchs. The obverse also features a crown with drapery in the centre, with the mintmark for Milan, 'M', below. The reverse features the denomination and the date.
