Description:

English token, Victorian

Diameter 20mm

The obverse features the bust of Queen Victoria facing left and the inscription 'VICTORIA QUEEN OF GREAT BRITAIN'. On the reverse is the double-headed eagle often used in German heraldry. Victoria's mother and three of her grandparents were German and this token is most probably making reference to Victoria's German lineage. The eagle bears an unidentified coat of arms on a shield and carries the sceptre in its right claw and the orb in its left.
