Description:

English bronze halfpenny, 1939

Diameter 25mm

The obverse features the bust of George VI facing left. The inscription reads 'GEORGIUS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX: F:D:IND:IMP', Latin, abbreviated for 'George VI By the Grace of God King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India'. Below the bust are the initials 'H.P' for T. Humphrey Paget, the designer. The reverse features a rigged ship with the value above and the date below. The designer's initials also appear on the reverse, to the right of the ship's prow.
