Description:

English bronze farthing, 1924

Diameter 20mm

The obverse feature the bust of King George V facing left. The inscription reads 'GEORGIUS V DEI GRA: BRITT:OMN:REX FID:DEF:IND:IMP', Latin, abbreviated meaning 'George V By the Grace of God King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India'. At the base of the bust are the initials 'B. M.' for Bertram Mackennal, the designer. The reverse features Britannia seated and facing right. At her side is a shield bearing the Union Flag upon which she rests her right hand. In her left hand is Poseidon's trident and she is pictured sitting by the sea. The value is inscribed above and the date is below.
